Invented by an elementary school teacher, Fun Meal Caper, focuses on higher level thinking strategies, such as problem solving and decision making. This game provides innumerable opportunities for young minds to sort their options and choose the next best move. The game poses moral dilemmas, which give each player the ability to make decisions on how they will deal with their opponents during the game. To top it all off, kids are given the message that it is important to eat their “veggies”! Special orders, trades, good deeds, and taking care of Nana, make it a unique and delightful caper each time you play. Object of the Game
Your goal is to be the first player to collect at least one of every meal
item card to fill your tray. You can win the game with 6 meal item cards
or 5 meal item cards and a Special Order card. However, you must have the
Veggie Item card to win the game.
Setting up the Game
Place the meal item cards within the appropriate spaces on the board. Place
the Express Line cards and Special Order cards in their designated spaces
in the middle of the board. Each player chooses a playing piece. The playing
pieces are placed on the Parking/Start Square and the trays are placed
right side up in front of each player.
Playing the Game
Every player rolls the dice and the player with the highest roll will go
first. Players then follow, taking their turns, to the left of the starting
player. Play moves clockwise around the outside track with the larger squares
by rolling the 2 dice. You may only enter the Meal Item Path (the smaller
squares) by landing on an ENTER square for that path. There are many different
ways to get to that ENTER square which are explained below. When you are
about to ENTER a Meal Item Path and while you are inside that path you
will use only 1 die to move your piece. When you land on a green arrow
you may take the meal item card for that path.
Directions for Individual Squares
On a Roll – Roll one die and you choose to go either forward or backward that many squares.
Fly on to Fries, Veggies are Good For You, Sail on to Sandwich, Travel to Toy, Drive on to Drink, and Dying for Dessert – These tiles are telling you to go the Enter Square with the arrow pointing into the meal item path. You may choose to enter that path on your next turn or proceed from there along the outside squares if you already have that card.
Express Line – Draw an Express Line card and turn it number side up beside your tray. You may use this card to move your playing piece the number of squares noted on the card instead of using the die/dice. You have to wait until your next turn and you can use only one card per turn. After you have used your card, return it to the bottom of the pile.
B-Day – It’s your birthday! You may go to any Enter Square for any meal item path of your choice. You will enter the path on your next turn.
Special Order – This acts as a “wild card” that can be used in place of any meal item card, except for your veggies. You will wait until your have 5 items and then use this card to replace the item that is left on your tray to win the game. You may have only one special order card.
OK to Cut – You decide which player you want to cut in front of and then go to the square in front of that person and then follow the directions for that square. You may also choose to stay right where you are.
Copy Cat – You may go to the square of any other player and follow the directions for that square. It would be “cool” if they just got a meal item card and you could get one, too!
Wet Floor – Unfortunately you have just walked on to a slippery floor surface and you dropped that item, therefore you must return that card to the pile. That is, if you have the meal item, otherwise, do not worry!
Restroom and Dirty Hands – If you land on the “dirty hands” square you need to go to the restroom and clean them. Of course you will lose a turn while you are there. If you just land on the restroom square you will also lose a turn.
Good Deed – You have to help some other player if you can. If you have some meal item they do not have you will have to give it to them.
Left Nana’s Glasses – You do have to go back to the parking space, but pick up an Express Line card on the way for being so nice to Nana!
Trade - You may trade any of your meal item cards with
any other player’s card. It is your choice whether to try to make a “fair”
trade or to be more “competitive” and take something away from your opponent.
